By JACK SHAW Something about Jones County Junior College seems to bring out the best in East Central Communi– ty College football. In the past three years the Warriors have brought a combined 1-21-1 record into the games with Jones. In each of those years an inspired effort by East Central has given the heavily favored JCJC Bobcats fits. In 1993 and 1994 the Warriors fell to the Bobcats 24-10 and 36-29. This past Saturday in Ellisville the Warriors took a 10-9lead into the lockeroom before bowing to Jones 31-10. East Central came out strong in the first quarter. The Warriors started the game with an eight play, 58-yard drive highlighted by a 25-yard pass from quarterback Jake Kizziah to running ack F rt:ddie May on the first offense pia~. Early in the founh quarter the Bobcats capnahz.ed on an East Cen– tral fumble and drove 45 yards on five plays caJ2ped off b} Miller's third touchdo.,.•n :un, this time from 16 yards out. Sullmgs was good on the point after to put the Bobcats up 31-10. In lhe JaSt minute of play, Lance Eichelberger carne in as quarterback anc o:ought the Warriors close ro another score. Eichelberger hit Rand} Ellison for 38 yards and Tim wjngsum fOl
drive stalled on the 24 yard line, and Peyton Weems missed on a 41 yard field goal that appeared to be par– tially blocked. East Central con– trolled the momentum throughout the quarter as the Warriors out gained the Bobcats 128 yards to 78 yards. However, neither team could score in the period. The East Cen– tral defense also rose to the occa– sion making an inspired goal line stand mid\'-ii} tiWough 'the periOd. The \\ arnors held the Bobcats on two runs from the two yard line. On third down Ashanti Webb broke up a Bobcat pass in the cor– ner ol the endzone. The Warriors then ~;arne up "1th their first big spec1al team of the day when they blocked Jade Stillings' 20-yard field goal a uen T he Warrior s got on the scoreboard ftrSt n the second
quarter with a blocked punt return ed for 18 yards for a touchdown b~ Marcus Ward. However , the biJ play again haunted East Central After being pinned down on th• four yard line, following a JC punt Jake Kizziah was sacked in the end zone for a safety. Lee Wylie's en suing free kick was returned to th1 Warrior 27 yard line. On the nex play, Bobcat quarterback Unricka~ Hall "found Y amani Adams dowr the sideline for the go-ahead score On the next drive East Centra answered the Jones score with a 1 ~ play, 59-yard drive culminating ir a 28-yard Weems field goal. The Warriors kept the big and ag gressive Bobcat defensive front (le< by Detrick Liston, a 6-7, 265 pounc defensive end) on their heels with ~ lot of misdirection. Two Kizziah t< Ray I vey passes of 19 and 11 yard! were keys to the drive. The Bobca~ took the ensuing kickoff and mar· cbed to the Warrior nine yard line Again the Warrior defense came ur
