Peyton Weems of Louisville missed on his PAT attempt but EC held a 6-0 lead. The key play of the quick scor– ing march was a 50-yard completion from Crotwell to receiver Tim Liv– ingston of Carthage which gave EC possession on the Indian 12. Itawamba, which improved to a 4-2 following the nondivision mat– chup, answered the Warrior tally on its first play from scrimmage when Caldwell and Franklin Murphy connected on a 37-yard scoring pass play. Kicker Brent Collins missed the PAT and the score was deadlocked at 6-6. Itawamba took the lead for good later in the first period when Caldwell and receiver Ron Dixon combined talents on a 19-yard scor– ing pass play. Caldwell ran for the two-point conversion and extended the Indians' lead to 14-6. Caldwell completed another touchdown strike to receiver David scoreboard midway in the second quarter when Weems booted a 46-yard field goal to close the scor- ing gap to 21-9, which remained the score at halftime. ltawamba put the matchup out of reach in the third period when Caldwell tallied on a one-yard plunge and later conneckd with La– mont Woodberry for a 19-yard touchdown pass. Following Collins' successful PAT on the latter score, the Indians were out front by a 34-9 margin going into fourth quarter action.
