Of Personal Mention Buckman Joins ECCC Staff Katbariae K. Buckman, a native of Collierville, Tenn., has been named practical nurse instructor at East Central Community Col– lege in Decatur, announced Dr. Eddie M. Smith, College president.

Buckman previously served as an allied health and nurse assis– tant instructor at Jasper County Career Development Center in Heidelberg. She is also a former staff nurse at Jasper General Home Health and registered nurse at Jasper General Hospital, both in Bay Springs. Buckman, who began her duties on August 14, said " I am real excited to be teaching adult students. It is a whole new ex– perience for me. I am also look– ing forward to working for East Central; I have found the peo– ple to be extremely friendly."

May Joins ECCC Staff John May, a native of Grenada, bas been named Assistant to the Band Director at East Central Community College in Decatur, announced Dr. Eddie M. Smith, College president.

A graduate of Germantown High School in Tennessee, Buckman attended the University of Mississippi and Jones County Junior Col– lege before continuing her education at Meridian Community Col– lege. At MCC, she received an associate degree in nursing. She is married to Dewayne Buckman of Bay Springs, and they have two children: Ashley, 11, and Kelsey, 5. The family resides in Bay Springs. She is the daughter of Avis Kelsey and Richard Kelsey of Collierville.

In this new position, May will provide assistance with the Col– lege's Warrior Marching Band, workng closely with the drum line; Concert Band; Jazz Band; ' Round Midnite and the Col– legians. He will also be teaching applied lessons in percussion. Before joining the East Cen– tral staff, May served as Direc– tor of Bands and music instruc– tor at Clarksville High School in Texas. He also has teaching ex– perience as a graduate assistant in percussion at Delta State University, and he has instructed

percussion sections for Washington High School in Greenville, Cor– inth High School, Cryst~l Springs High School and Grenada High School. May said " I am excited and elated about ·working at East Cen– tral Community College and being back in Mississippi." A graduate of Grenada High School, May received a bachelor's degree in music education and a master's degree in music educa– tion with an emphasis in percussion from Delta State University. At DSU, he served for five years as the marching band's drum cap– tain and drum section leader, receiving many honors. May is the son of Mr. and Mrs. John C. May of Grenada and the grandson of Hazel May of Ackerman. He plans to reside in Decatur.
