Eubanks to be honored for leadership at ECCC

Alumni of East Central Community College who were members of a leadership orga– nization named The Kaljyc– Peer s are among groups to be recognized at the College's 1995 homecoming observance sched– uled October 7. Founded during the 1934-35 term by former ECCC faculty member Leon Eubanks who now resides in Hattiesburg, the leadership society was formed, according to its charter, "t o train young men of ECJC in debate, parliamentary law and oratory; to develop knowledge of world affairs, literature, phi– losophy, science and any other field of study that might be deemed worthy; and to engage in any further act1vit1es that might promote good fellowship among members." The organizati on was dis– continued follo,ving the 1942-43 session when Eubanks left East Central to serve in the Army Education Program in Guam during World War II. He later continued his teaching car eer at the University of Southern Mississippi until he retired in 1971 foBowing 25 years of ser– vice. According to homecoming organizers, names and address– es of former members of The Kaljyc-Peers have been located except for those who served during the following college terms: 1934-35, 1935-36, 1941- 42 and 1942-43.
