at ECCC... Thnlsh • m concert Feb. 16th

The DI\·ision of Communication and Fine Arts at East Central Com– munity College \\ill present James W. Thrash, Jr. in a piano concert at 7 p.m. Thursday, February 16, in the Fine Arts Center auditorium. Thrash is a Decatur native and a graduate of Decatur High School where he was an outstanding piano and band student. He was an active member of Clarke-Venable Baptist Church and served as church organist during his high school years.

After graduation, Thrash became Dir~~ror ot MU::.ic and Fine Arts at First United Methodist Church in Des Moines, Iowa and served as an adjunct faculty member at Simpson College in Indianola, iowa. He cur– rently serves as Director of Music a1 Germantown United Methodist Church and has the responsibilities of directmg two chancel choirs and the youth choir. In addition he prm ides assistance to the dire~tors or the children's choirs and beU choirs a<; well as guiding the de\dopment of the music program of the entire congregation. Thra<;h and his \\Ue Sharon who is also a narive :-.1ississippian,' have two daughters, Mary and Emily and reside m Colliem-ille, Ten: nessee. His parents are Mr. and Mrs. J.W. Thrash of Decatur. One of his piano teachers in the early years of his training was Mrs. Maria n Thornton, a- fac ulty member of East Central Communi– ty College. There is no charge for admission to the program and the public is in– vited to hear this outstanding musi– cian in concert.

Thrash He holds a bachelor of music degree in piano and organ from the University of Southern Missis ippi and a master's degree from Eastman School of Music in Rochester, Ne" York. While atten– ding Eastman, Thrash \\aS award– ed a Performer·~ Certificate, the highest award pre~ented to a stu– dent for the master·~ degree. He has performed as a soloi!>t with the Jackson ~ymphony and the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestras.
