South tourney underway at EC Regular season action came to an end for both East Central Com– munity College basketball teams last week, with the Lady Warriors claiming victories over Gul f Coast and Jones while the men were not, as fortunate, although the Warriors provided quite a scare for the highly ranked Jones Bobcats. leading scorers ~ere Harber and Davis, 9 each; and Genia Griffin and Robinson, apiece. ln men's action, EC fell 80-71 to Gulf Coast and lost a nail-biting 65.Q2 O\'ertime decision to national– ly ranked Jones. The Lady Warriors, who com– pleted '94-95 competition by posting an 18-5 overall record and 9-3 mark in South Division play, defeated Gulf Coast 76-55 Thurs– day in Perkinston and outscored Jones 63-53 February 6 in Decatur. LaDonna Robinson led Lady Warrior scorers with her 22-point effort. Also scoring were Monica Davis, 20; Dane Vance, 7; Brandi Harber and J .J. Moorehead, 6 each; Jennifer Alexander, 5; Wilma Cooksey, 4; Melody Reed, 3; Sara Hollingsworth, 2; and Christy Madison and Chasity Bounds, 1 each. EC led 30-23 at halftime. The Brackeen-Wood Physical Education Building on the Decatur campus serves as site of the MACJC South State Tournament scheduled February 13-16. Finals are set for 6 (women) and 8 p.m. (men) on Thursday. The winner and runner-up of each division ad– vance to the state tournament which will be hosted by the South women's winner February 20-21.
