ECCC WOMEN 83, SOUTHWEST 75: EC almost let an easy win slip away in openmg– night action. The Lady Warriors JUmped out to a 21-8 lead and took a 42-29 lead into halftime of the Feb. 14 contest. Southwest rallied to within 60-59 before the Lady Warriors stretched their lead back to 11. Monica Davis led 19-5 EC with a game-high 24 points. Melody Reed added 12, Genia Grif– fin 10, Jennifer Alexander eight, Brandi Harber and Cyntia Ellis both had seven, Wilma Cooksey five, and LaDonna Robinson four. Keisha Boddie led 5-19 Southwest with 18. Genia Griffin hit four 3-pointers to lead the 20-5 Lady Warriors with 17 points. Also in dou– ble figures were Melody Reed with 14, Bran– di Harber and Monica Davis with 11, and Cyntia Ellis with 10. Wilma Cooksey added three. Harber was 5 of 6 at the free-throw line late m the game to preserve the win. Marianna Reeves led 19-6 Co-Lin with 18. EC jumped out to a 12-2 lead only to have the Lady Wildcats draw even at 31-31 at halftime. Pearl River led 55·53 before the Lady Warriors took contJ;oJ. Melody Reed had 18 points, Monica Davis 16, Brandi Harber 14, and Genia Griffin 10 to · lead EC. Cyntia Ellis added seven, Dane Vance five, and LaDonna Robinson three. Elaine Powell led 22-5 Pearl River with a game-high 35 points. East Central was whistled for 30 fouls to Pearl River's 'l:l. EC made 22 of 35 free shots, while PRCC was 18 of 33. The Lady Warriors of East Central Com– munity College wrapped up lhe South Divi– sion Tournament championshtp last week in Decatur by knocking off Southwest Copiah– Lincoln, and Pearl River. It was the Lady Warriors' first division tour– nament title since 1990. The 21-5 Lady Warriors hosted the state tournament earlier this week. The 9-17 EC men had a s tring of four– straight 20-win seasons snapped. The Lady Warriors are assured of a berth in the Region 23 Tournament at Mississippi College next week along with Pearl River, Northeast, Northwest, Holmes, Coahoma, Co– Lin, and Mary Holmes. PEARL RIVER MEN 85, ECCC 80: The War– riors had their season ended with the Feb. 13 loss. EC led 65-62 with 6:50 remaining before the Wildcats went on an U·O run. After that, EC got no closer than 77-71. Philip Prince hit a school record eight 3-pointers to lead the Warriors with 26 points. He finished the season with 74 3s, also a school record. Darvis Rasberry added 17 points, Eric Caples had 13, Johnny Mays 11, and Vincent Spencer eight. Conley Verdun led 17-9 Pearl River with 29, 16 of which came in the second half.
