Lady Warriors set sights on region title

Winning a second straight Region 23 title is on th e minds of East Central Community Col– lege's Lady Wa rrior s who hope t o rebound from last week's 69- 66 l oss to North west for t h e MACJ C State Championship. East Centra l, 22-6, was set to begin its quest for another region crown by taking on Coa– homa at 1:45 p.m. 'fuesday in Mississippi College's A E. Wood Coliseum. Should th e Lady Warriors defea t their fir st-round oppo– nent , they would then advance to semi-final action scheduled at noon Wednesday against the Mary Holmes-Northeast winner. Tournament final s will be held at 6 p.m. Thur sday with the champion advancing to the NJ CAA Women's Basketba ll Tournament scheduled Mar ch 13-18 in Tyler Texas. Last year the Lady Warriors won the consolation champi– onship and fmished seventh in the nation with a 28-7 r ecord. In last week's loss to North– west, the Lady War riors trailed 60-45 with about six minutes left until key baskets by Monica Davis, Brandi Harber and Cyn-

thia Ellis cut the lead to 67-66 with three seconds remaining. But Sinnie Tillman of North– west sank two free throws to ice the victory, altho ugh Harber's desperation three-pointer at the buzzer barely missed sending the game into overtime. Davis was the leading scorer for EC with 22 point s, fo llowed by Harber with 11. Northwest led 33-31 at half– t ime. East Central advanced to the sta te fi n al s by cruising past Northeast 107-80 Feb. 20. Ha r be r led the scoring onslaught with 23 points. Also sco ring were Davis with 16; Ell is with 15 , and RobiDson with 12. EC led 56-36 at halftime.
