With eight of their finallO South Diviston games on the road, the Warriors of East Central Community College needed to take two games from Hinds Saturday tn Decatur. Both teams managed one win, doing their playoff hopes more harm than good. At 9-5 in the South Division, the Warriors trailll-3 Gulf Coast and 10-4 Pearl River. Gulf Coast visits Decatur Saturday for the War riors' final home division games. ECCC improved to 20-13 overall by sweeping Itawamba on the road Sunday afternoon. EAST MISSISSIPPI 5-5, ECCC 4-1: East Mississippi continued its dominance of the Warriors with the April4 sweep in Scooba. Rodney Batts gave the Lions a 2-0 lead with a homer in the first inning of the opener. ECCC came back to take a 3-21ead in the top of the third on a two-run homer by Brandon Gray. Michael Petyak walked and scored on a double by John Herrington in the top of the seventh to give ECCC a 4-2 lead Chad Rainer's two-run single in the bot– tom of the seventh gave the Lions the win David Cox < 6-2 l took the loss after rehev ing Jamie Morrow in the fifth. All teams are e11g1ble for state tournament. Gulf Coast Pearl River, East Central, Jones. and Southwest are competing 1n DiviSIOn I as far as regional play is concerned. Hinds and Co-Lm are 1n Div1sion II run homers in the fifth inning of the nightcap to give the Lions the sweep. ECCC's only run came on a infield groundout by Chris Ezelle in the top of the fifth that scored Mark Fanning who had singled :\like Hammack took the loss after Tom– mv Holland had shut out the Lions over the first four innings.
