Reed and Nelson were both nam– ed to the All-Region 23 team. Karen Powell had 16 for Pearl River which finished 26-5. East Central . . . . .... 44 22 - 66 Pearl River ........... 32 30 - 62 ECCC WOMEN 88, HOLMES 87 (OT): ECCC needed a minor miracle to survive the March 1 qua r terfinal contest. The Lady Warriors trailed 51-39 at halftime and had to get three– pointers from Monica Davis and Jamala Odom in the final minute of regulation just to get to overtime. The Lady Warriors then proceed– ed to fall behind 81-77 early in overtime. Rena Reed's two free throws with three seconds left gave ECCC the win. Reed led 23-6 ECCC with 20 points. Evelyn Nelson scored 17, Carla Leflore 14, Memory Hunter 13, Davis 11, Odom 10, and Dane Vance three "I said all along that of the three

The Warriors started the second half with a vengeance, as a three– point play from Cederic Sledge and a basket from Eric Morgan brought them to within 45-39. The Bulldogs then went on a seven-point run before ECCC got to within 64-60 on a three-pointer from Michael Coats. ECCC got to within the final two– point margin as time ran out. The 23-5 Warriors were led by Marcus Mann's 35 points, 23 of which came in the second half. An– thony Coleman added 16 points. Both were named to the All-Region 23 team. Coats had five points and Sledge scored three. Gulf Coast, 19-6, got 15 points from Sam Bowie, 12 from Robert Wilker– son, and 10 from Ricky Evans. Gulf Coast was eliminated the next night with a 73 56 loss to even– tual champion Bossier Parish. East Central . . 30 38 - 68 Gulf Coast ........... 45 25 - 70

East Central 39 38 11 - 88 Holmes . 51 26 10- r57 ECCC WOMEN 94, NORTHWEST 84: The Lady Warriors took a 48-34 lead into halftime of the March 2 contest behind 14 points from Evelyn Nelson, 10 from Monica Davis, seven from Rena Reed, and six from J.J :\1oorchead. Northwest got to within 15-67 before Memory Hunter made a pair of free throws with 4:43 remaining to increase the lead back to 10. The Lady Rangers closed to within 85-79; but Carla Leflore con– verted a three-point play with just over a minute left. Reed and Hunter both added two free throws to stretch the lead back to 11. Nelson led the Lady Warriors with 22 points. Reed scored 18, Leflore had 15, and Hunterfinished with 12.
