EC women open South tourny beating Southwest The East Central Community Col– lege women bounced back from a regular season-ending loss at Hinds to defeat Southwest, 69-42, in the first round of the South Division Tourna– ment Monday at Summit. The Lady Warriors jumped out to a 36-11 halftime lead over the Lady Bears who only had six players. In improving to 20-4, ECCC got 16 points from Evelyn Nelson, 11 Carla Leflore, 10 from Rena Reed, eight from Monica Davis, seven from Cyn– tia Ellis, and six each from Memory Hunter and Jamala Odom. Southwest's season ended at 4-17. The Lady Bears got 14 points from Meshae Johnson a nd 13 from Shomeka Showers. The Warriors are also assured of a berth in the Region 23 Tournament at Mississippi College, Feb. 29-March 3. The Warriors had a first-round bye in the South Division Tour– nament.
