ln community college basketball action last week, East Central teams defeated division foes Southwest and Hinds and improved their com– bined records to an amazing 33-3 mark. Michael Coats led the Warriors with 16 points in their 53-44 come– from-behind win at Southwest Thursday night, which gave the EC Warriors a 17-1 overall record and 7-0 slate in league play. Also scoring were Anthony Col– eman, 11; Marcus Mann, 9; Stacy Miller, 7; Vincent Spencer and Cedric Sledge, 4 each; and Phillip Prince, 2. Southwest led 22-19 at halftime. In women 's action, East Central rolled to a 78-60 win behind Dane Vance's 16 points. Other top point– makers were Carla Leflore, 13; and Rena Reed and Evelyn Nelson, 12 each. Following their victory, the Lady Warriors improved to 16-2 and 6-1. Both EC squads had little trou– ble defeating visiting Hinds on Tuesday, January 18, as the men claimed a 90-66 decision and the Lady Warriors won by a 93-64 tally.

East Central led 42-32 a t halftime. Evelyn Nelson led the Lady War– riors with 20 points. Also scoring were Rena Reed, 16; Memory Hunter, 12; Jamala Odom, 9; J.J . Moorehead and Monica Davis, 8 each; Dane Vance, 5; Carla Leflore and Kitty Thrash, 4 each; and Wilma Cooksey, Maria Riley and Cyntia Ellis, 2 each. East Central led 45-27 a t halftime. Remaining Season Games Only four regular season games remain for East Central squad~ prior to South Division Tourna– ment competition scheduled February 14-17. Remaining c~ntests include Copiah-Lincoln, January 27, home; Gulf Coast, January 31. away; Pearl River, February 3, home; and Hinds, February 10, away.
