han Cindy Callahan receives prestigious scholarship Cindy Callahan of Forest, a 1994 graduate of East Central Community College, has been named recipient of an interna– tional honor society's most pres– tigious scholarship. Callahan is one of only 10 stu– dents selected nationwide to re– ceive a Guistwhite Scholarship, a program funded by Phi Theta Kappa. She is also one of only two Mississippians to receive the honor. A 1992 honor graduate of Scott Central High School, Callahan is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Leroy Callahan of For– est. Her grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Horace M. Smith of Carthage and the Rev. and Mrs.• Leroy Callahan of Sebastopol. Guistwhite scholars receive cash stipends of $5,000 each to fi– nance baccalaureate studies over a two-year period. Callahan, a secondary math education major with a perfect 4.0 grade point average, plans to continue her studies at Mississippi State University. Selection for the scholarship is based on scholastic achieve– ment, leadership skills and ser– vice to their college, community and Phi Theta Kappa. Officials representing Phi Theta Kappa and East Central Community College have an– nounced plans to honor Calla- han during reception activities scheduled from 2:30 to 3 p.m. Wednesday, July 20 in Burton Library on the Decatur campus. --The public is invit~ to attend.
