ECCC Extena- Streak Following Tournament Action

Sophomore Marcus Mann blis– tered the backboards for 33 points and grabbed 19 rebounds as East Central Community College won its 13th straight contest by defeating Ita– wamba 89-79 Saturday night in the Brackeen-Wood Physical Education GBuilding, climaxing final action of the annual ECCC Tournament. Besides Mann, other pointmakers for the 13-1Warriors were Eric Mor– gan, 16; Michael Coats, 14; Stacy Miller and Anthony Coleman, 10 each; and Cederic Sledge, 6. EastCentral led 42-34 at halftime. The nationally ranked Lady War– riors, winners of 14 straight with no defeats, easily disposed of the Lady Indians by a 101-67 margin. Rena Reed and Carla Leflore each scored 18 points for the East Central women, ranked 12th in latest JUCO poll. Also scoring for the Lady War-

riors were Jamala Odom, 14; Evelyn Nelson, 13; Memory Hutner, 9; JJ. Morehead and Cassanda King, 6 each; Genia Griffin, LaDonna Robinson and Dane Vance, 4 each; Wilma Cooksey and Monica Davis, 2each; and Cyntia Ellis, 1. East Central led 59-35 at halftime. In earlier games played Saturday, Mississippi Delta men defeated Jones County 91-88 and Jones women outscored Delta 67-50. Action Friday saw East Central's Warriors defeating Delta 106-81, avenging their season openin~ 72-70 loss at Moorhead, while the Lady Warriors downed the Lady Tro~ans by an 82-56 manrin. EastCentral led 41-26 at halftime. In earlier tournament competition, Jones men edged Itawamba 69-68 and Itawamba women clipped Jones 70-66. GAMES THIS WEEK In games scheduled this week, East Central teams travel to Pearl ~ver January 11 and Holmes on January 15. The Lady Warriors and Warriors will host Hinds on Tues– day, January 18.
