News From ECCC: Native American Club The Native American Club Sympathy

We lost a wonderful friend, Derrick Thomas, in February. TheNativeAmericanClubmade a visit to his home and offered our sympathy to Mr. and Mrs. Thomas. They shared, with us, a picture of accomplishments he achieved. Our prayers are with this family. Other News Child care professionals or– ganized a newclubcalledPACE and elected officers, shown in the picture above. Two of the officers are members of the Na– tive American Club as well. Maggie Chitto and Sequita Wil– liams will represent the PACE organization and compete in PACEstatecompetitionatHinds Community College in Jackson. Sequita will demonstrate how to teach children in music; and Maggie will demonstrate self learning activities using math. Maggie Chitto and Lorria Dixon were inducted into Phi Theta Kappa on February 8 on the East Central Community College campus. Phi Theta Kappa is the nation's highest honorary society. The Native American Club would like to thank Mrs. John– son, our sponsor, for all her hard work. Also, thanks to the Choctaw Vocational Education Department for their support in providing transportation and fulfilling our requests for help.

The 1993-94 officers of the Native AmericanClubare: Christopher Willis, president; Rhonda Bell, vice-president; LeAnn Sam, sec– retary; and Sequita Williams, reporter. Activities A Thanksgiving feast was provided for club members by the Choctaw Vocational Educa– tionDeparbnent. We would like to thank all who participated and donated food for this feast. All the members had a wonder– ful time. In December, we held a food drive tocollect food for ourcom– munities. We were able to pro– vide rn.·o baskets of food to each of the communities. Students of the Month The Native American Club members are really outstanding in their chosen fields. Below is the list of students who have been chosen student of the month so far this year: Lorrie Dixon, November - ChildCare; LeAnnSam, Decem– ber - Administrative Assistant; Aron Johnson, December- Car– pentry; Vernon Tubby, Febru– ary- Electrician; Maggie Chitto, March - Child Care Congratu– lations to all of you on a job well done!
