Located north of the inttamural and baseball fields, the new complex is in "excellent condition" and ready for the upcommg 18-game (includ– ing double-headers) home schedule, said coach Mike Anderson. now in his second year of directing the softball program. In their i.JUtial season last year, the Lady Warriors surprised most oppo– nents by winning eight games with an all-volunteer squad. Those selected for this year's team partici– pated in tryouts and were awarded athletic scholarships. Coach Anderson said he is "opti– mistic" about this year's team, led by returnees Miglcha McDonald, a third baseman from Newton and an All– State selection last year, catcher Kim Rayburn of Louisville, second baseman/outfielder Kim Reel of Na– nih Waiya and outfielder Sara Hol– lingsworth of Neshoba Central. Another sophomore on the squad is first-year team member Jamala Odom of Scou Central, expected to see a lot of playing time at third base. Freshman squad members include catcher/ftrst baseman Tawanna Car– ter and outfielder JJ. Moorehead, both of Union; outfielder Shonda Hurst and outfielder/catcher Tish Vance, both of Newton County Academy; third baseman Eugenia
