JUCO All-Star game slated for Saturday East Central , East Mississippi will each be represented by four players

By Aaron Derr The Meridian Star No less than 140 college football coaches will be look– ing for junior college talent Saturday at the Mississippi Junior College All-Star Classic football game at Northeast Mississippi College in Booneville. Both East Central and East Mississippi placed four players on the South squad, including Neshoba Central graduate Brad Moody from ECCC. Moody, a 6-foot-1, 232- pound linebacker , will be joined at the all-star game by teammates Frederick Tate, James McGee and Stacey Whitehead. Tate is a 6-foot-3 tight end from Hattiesburg, while McGee is a 236-pound full– back from Canon, Ga. , and White i s a 6-foot-5 , 299- pound defensive end from New Bern, N.C. East Mississippi will be represented at the game by running back Antowain Smith from Milbrook, Ala., center Clint Howard of Starkville, strong safety Nate Blevins from Caledonia and linebacker Kevin Hughes of NewHope.

Smith was the Lions lead– ing rusher this year, churn– ing out more than 1,000 yards on the ground. McGee was Eas t Central's leading rusher, amassing 581 yards on only 103 carries this season, an average of 5. 7 yards per carry. Tate was the team's second-leading r eceiv– er with 12 catches. EMCC coach Tom Goode said a majority of the players who participate in the game will go on to play for four – year schools. "It's a great thing for these ~oungsters ," Goode said. There will be a lot of college coaches there. "Most every one of these kids will sign with four-year schools." Kickoff for the game is set for 1 p.m. in Keenum Stadium.
