Dr. Eddie M. Smith, president of East Central Community College in Decatur, has been chosen president of the Southern Association ofCom– munity, Junior and Technical Col– leges (SACJTC) for 1994. The orga– nization is affiliated wtih the South– em Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS) whose members include community and junior col– leges located in 11 states and Puerto Rico. Dr. Smith previously served as vice president before being named to the top position. Other officers selected include vice president Dr. Phail Wynn, president of Durham (North Caolina) Technical College; secretary/treasurer Dr. Ronlad J. Horvath, president of Jefferson Community College, Louisv.ille, Kentucky; and editor Dr. Lex D.

Walters, president of Piemont Tech– nical College in Greenwood, South Carolina. Mr. M. Rudy Groomes, president of Orangeburg-Calhoun Technical College in Orangeburg, S.C. serves as immediate past president The SACJTC organization meets each yar in association with the annual meeting of the Southern As– sociation of Colleges and Schools. This year's meeting was held Dec. 14-16 in Atlanta. Dr. Smith said SACJTC deals with general issues of concern to community and junior colleges lo– cated in the 11-state area.He said the organization also publishes a news– letter which serves as a yebicle for CQIDIJlunication among members of ---ltti
