1 East Central women down ~ sixth-ranked team in nation By A. Stacy Long The Meridian Star DECATUR Polly Kirkland watched a former student hand her a loss Thursday night. Kirkland, a former coach at Union and current women's coach at Pearl River Community College, saw for– mer Lady Yellow Jacket Brandi Harber knock down 8-of-11 three-pointers and score 31 points as East Central downed the Lady Wildcats 75-66. "I have known her since she was four," Kirkland said of Harber. "Her daddy and I coached together and I knew she could shoot. "Tonight, she just had one of those nights." Harber scored East Central's last seven points to wrap up the win. She hit a three-pointer from the left wing with 2:21 left and made 4-of-5 free throws after that. "She was on fire," ECCC coach Sammy Pace said. "She p,layed a tremendous game.' Harber also pulled down six rebounds and handed out two asl:>ists. She earned two steals and turned the ball over just twice. "She was sick and hasn't eaten anything today," Pace said. "I guess it was just ner– vous jitters. They didn't affect her on the floor."
