Lady Warriors win, EC men fall to 5-7
East Central's Lady War– riors rebounded in fine fashion fro m last week's first season loss by pounding Hinds Com– muni ty College 83-58 Monday night on the Utica campus. East Central, which improv– ed to 9- 1 overall and 2-1 in division play, v-. as led in scoring by LaDonna Robinson of Forest who pumped in 18 points. Other Lady Warrior pointmakers included Melody Reed , 14; Mo nica Davis, 13, and Genia Griffin, 11. The Lady Warriors led 35-21 at halftime. In men's action, Hinds eased past East Central by an 87-82 margin. The Warriors, 5-7 and 0-3, were led in sconng by Juan Alle n of Lonoke , Ark., who tallied 16 pomts. Also scormg were Darvis Rasberry, 15 ; Phili ps Prince, 14; Jamie Suttles, 11. Hinds led 44-33 at halftime. In games last week, both EC squads fell to homestanding Copiah-Lincoln on Dec. 1, with split decisions earned against visiting Southwest on Nov. 29. Four Lady Warriors scored in double figures against Co-Lin \ hich posted a 71-63 division win, snapping EC's eight-game undefeated streak. Davis led the Lady Warriors
with 16 poi nt s, foll owed by Robinson and Harber who ea ch had 15. Also scoring was Reed with 11. Co-Lin led 32-25 at halftime. The Wa rriors , wh o trailed 42-29 at halftime, had t h eir comeback attempt fall short as Co-Lin claimed a 79-76 decision. EC scor ers were Prince, 22; Spencer, 15, and Rasberry and Chris Hillie with 10 each . Against Southwest, Da vi s scored 28 points and led EC to an easy 93-76 win. Also scoring were Reed , 18, and Robinson and Cynthia Ellis with 12 each. The Lady Warriors led 49-31 at halftime. In men's play, the Warriors lost a hard-fought 59-56 decision to the visiting Bears. East Central pointmakers were Prince, 16, and Allen with 14. Southwest led 28-24 at halftime. Both EC squads close out '94 action by hosting Pearl River this Thursday in the Brackeen– Wood Physical Education Build– ing. Tipoff time is 6 p.m. for the women's game followed by men's play at 7:45. The Lady Warriors a n d Wa rriors resume com petition following the Christmas holi– days by hosting their annual tournament Jan. 6-7.
