NorthweSt blanks EC 28~ Although they compiled less yar– dage and had fewer first downs, defending national champions Nor– th\\ est Mississippi Communiry Col– lege rolled to a 28-0 shut out over Fast Central by capitalizing on several "big'' plays Thursday night on the Decatur campus. Hughes, eight for 64; and Patrick Washington, two for 26. Jermaine Boler \\as the leading rusher with 43 yards on 13 carries. Jason Cain punted eight times for a 39-yard average. Defensively, Dale Rusbing led the Warriors with six tackles and three assists. Other top defenders were Shawn Mitchell, 5 and 4; Michael Holbert, 4 and 3; Brad Moody, 4 and 1; and Eddie Hunt, also 4 and I . Interceptions were made by Rusbing, Donald Hardin and Omeri Green. Moody was also credited with a fumble recovery.

The visiting Rangers, who im– proved to 6-3 overall, broke open a scoreless contest in the second penod on quarterback Terence Samuel's 59-yard pass to Danny Young, followed by his 23-yard strike to Leon Cunningham, and Ozie Wilhite's 55-yard interception return of a Todd Vowell pass. Nor– th\.\est added its final tally early in the fourth quarter on a nine-yard run by backup quarterback Matt Dyson. Shannon Greer kicked off four PAT's. East Central, now 1-7-1 and still I 3-1 in the South, outgained the defending champs (360 to 358) and registered more first downs (15 to 13), but a lack of execution on several key situations along with missed field goal opportunities kept the Warriors from getting on the scoreboard. East Cemral will end 1993 com– petition tbis Thursday by traveling to Jones Junior College for a 7 p.m. division battle. The nationally rank– ed Bobcats clinched the South divi– sion title with their 26-3 win at Hinds Saturday afternoon. Jones is 8-1 overall and 5-0 in division play.
