Three third quarter touchdowns by Pearl River Community College quickly turned a close contest into a blowout as the Wildcats easily defeated East Central35-7 Saturday afternoon on the Decatur campus . Following the homecoming loss, the \Y arriors fell to 1-6 overall and 1-3 ih South Division competition. Pearl ~iver, which amassed a record 457 rushing yards in recording the division victory, improved to 5-2 and 3-1. It took less than five minutes for PRC to light up the scoreboard when wingback Shedrick Rodgers tallied on a 32-yard run, capping an Sj-yard drive. Murray kicked the PAT. l:ast Central later tied the game on a one-yard sneak by quarterback Todd Vowell. Antony Phipps add– ed the PAT. The 40-yard scoring march was set up by Dale Rushing's recovery of a Wildcat fumble. The Wildcats regained the lead for good early in the second period when fullback Chris Ryan fou nd paydirt on a 17-yard scamper. The PAT was not success ful due to a mishandled snap from center. The Wildcats took a 13-7 lead in– to the dressing room, and later put
the game o ut of reach for East Cen– tral in the third stanza. Wingback Vald ez Gaddis began the sco ri ng onslaught with his 33-yard tally, followed by Rodgers' 10-yard blast and Ryans' 62-yard dash to the endzone. Ryan rushed for a total 170 yards before being taken out later in the fourth quarter. Pearl River was also successful on a ll three PATs, with q uarterback Bobby Thaxto n rushing fo r one two-point play a nd Murray adding successfu l kicks. East Central will try to snap its three-game lo!>ing streak by hosting winless Southwest Thursday, Oc– tober 21. Kickoff is set for 6:30p.m. in Warrio r Stadium.
