The Warriors stopped Coahoma on the two-point conver– sion attempt, but the Tigers led 14-13 and maintained that margin going into halftime. East Central regained the lead late in the third period when placekicker Anthony Phipps was successful from 22 yards out. Phipps, who earlier missed attempts from 40 and 41 yards, gave the Warriors a 15-14 advantage with four minutes re– maining. The Warrior score was again set up by a mistake in the Tiger kicking game, as the Coahoma punter mhhandled the snap from cemer and \\. arrior Donald Hardin pounced on the loose ball at the Coahoma 27. The Tigers would later get the lead for good in the final stanza followi ng a questionable call after a Warrior punt. However, officials ruled possession belonged to Coahoma, and on their first play from scrim– mage, Burns fired a perfect strike to split end Fred Lavender who raced 76 yards before being hauled down by the Warriors on the EC three– yard-line.
