EC taps Callahan 'outstanding)' Biology instructor Ron Davis

an honor graduate of Scott Central High School where she was valedic– torian and STAR student. She was also selected an All-American Scholar and was named to the Na– tional Dean's List. At ECCC, the sophomore math major is a President's List scholar and serves as president of the con– cert choir, vice president of the Ac'cents (vocal ensemble), Student Education Association and Presi– dent's Council; and reporter for Phi Theta Kappa, an international honor society of the two-year col– lege. Callahan plans to pursue a de- 1 gree in secondary math ecucation at Mississippi State University.

and sophomore Cindy Callahan of Forest have been named East Cen– tral Community College's outstand– ing HEADWAE faculty member and student, respectively, for the 1993-94 term. The two honorees will be recognized along with other rep– resentatives of the state's public and private colleges and universi– ties at a special luncheon hosted by the Mississippi Legislature on February 8, 1994, in jackson. The annual HEADWAE (Higher Education Appreciation Da y– Working for Academic Excellence) program was initiated in 1988 to honor individual academic achievement and the overall con– tribution by the state's public and private institution of higher learn– ing. In addition to luncheon activi– ties, a booklet will also be published featuring photographs and b io– graphical sketches of each honoree. Davis has served seven years on the ECCC staff. He was named 1992-93 Academic Instructor of the Year and was previously tapped for Lamplighter Program honors which also recognizes outstanding instruc– tors from the state's community and junior colleges. He formerly taught at Northwest Junior High School where he al so received "Teacher of the Year" recognition . The Decatur resident is a mem– ber of the East Central Community College Faculty Association and the Mississippi Faculty Association for Community /Junior Colleges. He also coaches in the Dixie Youth Baseball League. A graduate of De– catur High School and East Central Community College, Davis received a bachelor's of science degree in biology from the University of Southern Mississippi and a master's degree in education/science from Mississippi State University.
