EC eams Sweep Hinds, End Season

Regular season competition con– cluded on a successfuJ note for East Central Community College basket– ball teams as both squads registered victories over visiting Hinds Com– munity Collegeon Thursday night Sammy Pace's Lady Warriors won their third straight contest by outscoring the Hinds women by a 95-90 margin and the East Cental men, led by second-year coach Jay Bowen, rallied over the Eagles to claim a 111-101 win. The Lady Warriors ended season play with a 13-7 overall record and 7-5 mark in the South Division. Hinds fell to 15-9 and are also 7-5 in league play. EastCentral's Warriors had one of ·their best ~sons in recent memory as the vastly improved squad upped its record to 20-4 and 10-2, good for second place honors behind national– ly ranked Gulf Coast The Hinds men dropped to 11-13 and 5-7. Carolyn Boatman led the Lady Warriors offensive attack as she pumped in 29 points. Also scoring were Shontel Lowe, 17; Shae Oak– ley, 13; Paula Nash, 11; Marcell Gray, 7; Beverly Ware, 5; Tammie Rigdon, 4; Tonya Stowers, 3; Gloria Clay, Brooke Smith and Misty Wright., 2 each. EastCentral led 43-41 .at halftime. In men's ac~on, Tony Bailey led the EC comeback with 21 points. Other pointmakers were Tyrone Stowers, 16; Terry Tblmes, 14; Eric Mays, 13; Kevin Kennedy, 14; Mark

Stribling, 11; Michael James, 8; Marvin Nash, 7; Luther Riley, 4; Tyron Bender, 3; and Vandy Hop– son,2. ECCC Sweeps Peart River Both East Central squads claimed wins over Pearl River Community College in games played Monday, February 11, on the Poplarville campus. In women's action, the Lady War– riors easily won 88-69 while the EC men outscored the Wildcats by an 84-72 margin. Carolyn Boartman led the East Central women with 24 points. Other pointmakers were Shontel Lowe, 22; Paula Nash, 14; Shea Oakley, 10: Gloria Clay and Misty Wright; each; Tammie Rigdon, Tonya Stow– ers and Brooke Smith, 2each. East Central led 50-35 at halftime. Kevin Kennedy was the leadin! Warrior scorer with 24 points.
