hi if~eta Kappa Taps 37 Students Thirty-seven students at East Cen– tral Community College in Decatur have been tapped for membership ..!.!.llP Theta Xi Chapter of Phi Theta Kappa, a national honorary scholas– tic society for community and junior college students. Also inducted into the honor soci– ety was Raymond McMullan, the college's director of admissions, records and research who received an honorary membership for his su por tof the prestigious organization Special recognition was also given to Dr. Brad Tucker, dean of instruc– tion, who will retire June 30, 1991 following 42 years of service in the .field of education. Fony of those years has been spent on the East 9 e~ntral campus. Dr. Tucker was pre– ["' ~ted variosu gifts from Phi Theta Kappa represent.ataives for his sup– _, port and leadership on behalf of the ll iQrganization. He was previously ....inducted imo PTK as an honorary ) member. Presentations to Dr. Tucker • were made by Mike Watson, assis– tamt director of the Phi Theta Kappa • Society's Honors Study Program and chapter advisors Dr. Shelby Harris and Mrs. Ann Burkes. Providing entertainment during the installation ceremony was vocal– ist Vonda Fraley of Union, a former PTK member and 1990 East Central graduate. Farley performed her origi– nal composition, "Dream Your Dreams," which received a national award of merit for performing arts at the 1989-90 national Phi Theta Kap– pa convention held in San Francisco, CA.

Newton County students initiated into Theta Xi Chapter included: Pam Belk, Richie Rivers, Raymond But– ler, and Jeff Hiu., all of Union; Rob– bie BeckJey, James Sharp, Martha Sibley and TammieWilkerson, all of NeWLOn; Tam Cooper, Tammy Fer– guson, Ab Germany, Kim Griffm, Patsy Harris, Sidney McNeil, Tam– mie Rigdon and Debra Shoemaker all of Decatur; Onie Crooke, Liul~ Rock; and Susan Williams, Hickory. Phi Theta Kappa officers who assisted in the initiation ceremonies were Sandra Collins ofUnion, presi– dent; Dawn Alexander of Little Rock, vice president; and Cay Clark ofChunky, secrel.ar}. Other program participants mcluded Dr. Eddie M. Smith, col– lege president, Dr. Tucker and Scott McNair ofUnion, chapter treasurer.
