Being sentenced by the schedule to play Northwest Mississippi Community College in Senatobia is hard– ship enough for many of the state's teams. Lining up under center for visiting Holmes last Thursday became a cruel and unusual punishment. The Rangers registered the staggering total of 16 sacks against the Bulldogs' poor quarterbacks in a 34-6 victory. The Rangers, 2--0, climbed from lOth to No.3 in the NJCAA's first regular-season poll. Northwest coach Bobby Franklin said his team didn't blitz all that much. It was more a case of the Rangers' defensive front overwhelming theHolmes line. "We've got some tall guys up there who can run pretty well,'' Franklin said. "They just got after 'em." Right tackle Bryant Mix, a 6-foot-5, 255-pound fresh– man from Water \'ulley, led the Northwest sack pack with five. Left tackle Marvin Mays. a 6-4, 255 sopho– more, and weak-side end .Jody Lewis, 6-3. 220 sopho– more, were in on two sacks each.
