Clark Nominated For 1991 Honor
School where she was Valedictorian and STAR student. Along with maintaining outstand– ing academic records, nominees are also required to submit a 500-word essay as well as letters ofrecommen– dation from their faculty members. Clark's essay topic concerned her participation in the college's Honors Program. Independent judges will review nominees and select a 20-member First Team. Judges will then choose ano.ther 40 .nominees to comprise 20-memberS'econd and Third teams. USA TODAY will present a $2,500.00 cash award to each mem– ber of the F.II'st Team. The cash awards will be presented to First Team members by the president of USA TODAY at the AACJC Annual Convention in Kansas City, Missouri on Aprill6, 1991. Each nominee will receive a certi– ficate which will be mailed to the sponsoring college president on May 1, 1991. First Team members will receive a gold medallion and a com– memorative award from USA TODAY. Extensive publicity will be given to those selected on the academic team. USA TODAY will feature 20 First Team members and list 20 Sec– ond and Third Team members. Hon-. orable Mentions will also be listed in the April16, 1991 issue. CBS Morning Show will inter– view "live" selected First Team members from the AACJC Conven– tion, on April16. AACJC will also conduct a live broadcast at the April 16 general ses– sion and recognize First Team mem– bers on the Community College SatelliteNetwork.
East Central Community College sophomore Mary Cay Clark of Chunky has been nominated .by me two-year institution to the Aca~ernic All-American Team for Community, Technical and Junior Colleges for 1991. Sponsored by the American Ass~ ciation of Community and Junior Colleges, Phl Theta Kappa Interna– tional Honor Society and USA TODAY, the academic program rec– ognizes scholarly achievements of students enrolled in Amecica's com– munity, technical and junior colleges. Clark, a liberal arts major, has maintained a perfrect 4.0 grade point average. She is a member of Mu Alpha Theta and serves as secretary of Phi Theta Kappa and vice presi– dent of L.I.F.E. (Leaders Investing in the Future of the Environment). She is also enrolled in the English and History Honors Programs at East Central. She is a graduate ofHickory High
