EC Will Present 'The Nerd' Nov. 8-10

Rehearsals are well undeway for IJle annual East Central Community College fall dinner theater produc– tion which is scheduled November 8-lOon IJle Decatur campus. This year the ECCC Players will present "The Nerd", a highly acclaimed IJlree-act play written by Larry Shue. Prior to each night's performance, a bufet-style meal will be served beginning at 7 p,n_ tn '\bh~ Memorial Cafeteria. According to ftrst-year speech and IJleater instructor Judy Carroll who also serves as dinner IJleater sponsor, IJle plot of "The Nerd" centers around IJle hilarious dilemma of a young architect, Willum Cubbert (played by Brent Fountain of Natch– ez), who is visited by a man he has never met but who saved his life in Vietnam. Willum has often told his friends about IJle debt he owes to Rick Steadman (played by Jim Holder of Union), IJle fellow G.I. who saved his life. Rick has received a letter

from WiUum telling him that as "long as he is alive, you'll have someone on earth who will do any– thing for you". When Rick shows up IJle night of wilum's 341Jl birthday party, Willum is, of course, very delighted to see Rick. But Willum 's delight soon fades as it becomes apparent that Rick is a hopeless "nerd"- an incre– dibly inept person v.ith no social ~ -: liule ·~u- nd RKio; out Su} hb v.ekome and hh countinucd presence among Willum and his friends leads to one uproari– ous incident after another. OIJler cast members include Pami– la Gilmer (as Tansy McGinnis) and Andy Hardy (as Axel Hammond), botJl of Philadelphia; Jeff Hitt (as Warnock Waldgrave) and Sandra Collins (as Clclia Waldgrave), botJl of Union.
