The Warriors lost 5 of 6 fumbles while Holmes fumbled three times and lost one, whtch was recovered by EC's RtmelMeeks. Hayes Petty was credited with intercepting a Bulldog pass. East Central was penalized 6 times for 50 yards. Holmes was assessed 9 times for 115 yards. Defensively, Dynassus Buggs led the charge with 14 solo tacldes, 9 as~ists and a quarterback sack. The Warriors will re-enter divi– :.ion competition this Saturday by rra•ehng to Hinds Community Col– ege for a 6:00 p.m. kickoff on the Raymond campus. Following the loss, East Central dropped to 2-3 overall and remain– ed 1-1 in South Division action. Holmes, 0-2 in North competi– uon, improved to 2-3 overall after the six-point win. The Warriors will re-enter divi– sion competition this Saturday by traveJing to Hinds Community Col– lege for a 6:00p.m. kickoff on the Ra ymond campus. It was not until they trailed 20-0 did the Warriors get untracked and when EC finally scored they d id so in an exciting fashion. On the last play of the first half, Warrior return specialist Willie McClelland fielded a Bulldog punt on his 13 yard line and then outran would-be Holmes tacklers on an 87-yard scoring jaunt which ob– viously gave the Eas t Central squad a momentum boost going into the dressing room. Late in the third period East Cen– tral narrowed the scoring ga p to 20- 14 when quarterback Lamont Byrd capped an 80-yard drive by scampering four yards to paydirt. Pete Porter connected on his second PAT and the Warriors appeared to be in complete control of second half action. Byrd 's tally was set up by key passes he made to Tony Kidd who had completions of 22 and 45 yards; the Iauer which gave the Warriors' possession on the Ho lmes' 17-yard line. But East Central v. as unable to cash in the scoring opportunity when Byrd 's completion to McClellan was ruled out of the end– zone on a fourth and goal situation. The Warriors lost another scoring opportunity on a march that began on the EC 2 1 with six minutes left in the game. T he Warrior d rive featured a key third down pass from Byrd to wide receiver Shannon Dodson , which gave EC possession on Lhe Holmes' 32, and a pass interference caU which also involved Dodson and gave the Warriors a first down on the Bulldog 17 with 2:49 remaining. But EC was denied the victory as McClelland could not hang on to Byrd's pass in the endzone and Byrd himself was sacked for a 13-yard loss on fourth down wirh JUSt O\er two minut~ left in the cont~t.
