Byrd rushed six times for 51 yards. Delta rushed for 95 yards and had 120 yarads passing for 215 total yards. Byrd averaged 39 yards on eight punts. Defensively for East Cenlral, Opie Ray led the charge with seven solo tackles. Other top defenders were Jimmy Brown, Wyatt Williams and Felton Burroughs, who each had five solo stops and two assists. Burroughs also had two interceptions•

Sophomore running back Sammie Holifield of Lake burst through the MS Delta defense for l 46 yards on 20 carries but his efforts fell short of a Learn victory as the visiting Trojans held on to defeat East Central Com– munity College 23-7 Thusday night in Decatur. Delta took a 10-0 first quarter lead following a 36-yard field goal by Tom Burke and a six-yard touch– down strike from quarterback Ralphe Legarde 10 wide receiver Carlos Bonner. Burke added the PAT. EC narrowed the scoring gap 10 10-7 when Holifield found paydirt from one-yard out with 4:10 remain– ing before halftime. Pete Porter of Morton kicked the PAT.
