..It's a lot better attitude "Ray said of the current team... Be ncr than lust year. The new (defensive) coach (Brad Bradshaw) came in (from Madison-R id!!eland Academy) and said we're going to do a whole lot better and we we– ren't in physical condition like we are now. He·s got us in better shape and we' ve really been working hard to improve our season. We were 2-8 and hopefully we'll be better." As for the points the Warnors surrendered in 1989, Ray said, "It was prcuy hard when the defense is on the field three-fourths of the time. This year we're hoping that our offense will be rolling and be better than iL was. Hopefully the defense won't be so tired and won't give up as many points as we did last year." The season opener against Delta saw the Warriors allow 23 points, but 11 cou ld have been a lot worse. Two turnovers gave the defending state runnerup Trojans the ball in– side the ECCt 30 but the Warriors
gave up only three points off those bad breaks. One of Delta's touch– downs came on a 67-yard punt re– turn, hardly the defense's fault. Ray has set his goals for 1990. "Last year I got hurt and was out two games. 1 was leading the state in tackles (at the time of the in– jury). I hope to lead the state in tackles this year and have at lec~c:• five imerceptions.·· Ray p1cked off a pass at South– west last year and returned it 39 yards for hi s first caree1 touchdown.
