District counties approve additional support for ECCC

Over $170,000 in increased revenue bas been approved for East Central Community College in Decatur by the college's support counties for the 1990-91 school year. Announcement of the additional support was made at the October meeting of the Board of Trustees. The tax millage increase was ap– proved by four of five district coun– ties, with only Winston County pro– viding the same millage support as in the previous year. Counties agreeing to the higher millage support include Leake, from 1.76 to 2.00 mills (or $23,000 in– crease); Neshoba, from 1.30 to 2.00 (or $39,600 increase); Newton, from 1.95 to 2.25 (or 30,750 increase) ; and

Scott from 1.65 to 2.25 (or 77,000 in– crease). Supervisors in Winston County voted to continue their pre– sent level of support which is 1.20 mills. In other matters, reports were given concerning completion of the Cross Hall andWinston Hall renova– tion projects. Final inspections have been made at each site by college of– ficials and representatives of the ar– chitectural firm of Charles P. McMullan and Associates. Acomplete remodeling was done at the science building with various new equipment installed in the laboratory. Renovations were made to the first floor of Winston Hall which is ready for occupancy. The second floor of the men's dormitory was previously remodeled to house s tudents last year for the first time since the early 1970's. Reports of the renovation projects were made by Business Manager Harvey Trapp. CClncerning other items in the area of Buildings and Grounds, a report was also given on the evalua– tion of the college's Major Maintenance Plan for 1989-90. The Board later approved the 1990-91 revision of the plan which lists estimated costs and approximate completion dates for various college maintenance projects. Trustees also approved payment for repairs on the parking lot of the Philadelphia-Neshoba County Vocational-Technical Center, with monies being spent from the center's Capital Improvements Reserve Fund. The Board also gave approval to a revision being made in the col– lege's Capital Improvem~nts Re– quest for 1992 and agreed to contract changes concerning the Winston Hall Renovation Project. In the area of Policies and Pr4>– cedures the Board agreed to change the date of the December Board of Trustees meeting from Dec. 11 to

Dec. 4 due to a conflict with the an– nual meeting of t he Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. Trustees also agreed to make a revision in the Due Process and Grievance Procedures Policy and a deletion in the Faculty Grievance Procedures Policy with reference to the Due Process and Grievance Pro– cedures Policy. Concerning Instruction, Dean of Instruction Dr. Brad Tucker reported on the status of the'appeal to reconsider federal funding for the Student Support Services Program. TMcollege's request for federal fun– ding is being reviewed by the United States Department of Education. In the area of Student Services, Dean of Students Dr. Phil Sutphin reported on plans for the Student Recruitment Task Force for 1991-92. . Dr. Sutphin also gave an update con– cerning participation on the col– lege's three student bus routes. Concerning Old Business Dr. Tucker reported on plans for Homecoming and in New Business, Trustees received updated copies of the compilation of the state's com– munity and junior college·statutes. An announcement was also made concerning the Regional Communi– ty College Legislative meeting which is scheduled at 6:30 p. m. Wednesday, Nov. 14 at Weidmann's Restaurant in Meridian. Reservation requests were made available for the 1990-91 collegedin– ner theater production planned Nov. 8-10 and copies of The Warrior, the college's alumni magazine, were distributed to Board members. It was announced tha t photographs of the Board of Trustees to be used for the 1990-91 yearbooks will be taken at the Nov 13 meeting. Prior to the monthly meeting. a luncheon was held in the Gordon Room of Mabry Cafeteria with new instructors Judy Carroll and James Bayne serving as guests of honor
