Carroll named EC instructor Speech and Theatre activitie'l at East Central Community Collese this year are under the direcuon of Miss Judy Ann Carroll. Miss Car– roll i replacing Bruce Peterson wtro left to assume another position. A native of Oklahoma, the new Speech and Theatre instructor comes to East Central from Chickasha, Oklahoma where she wa a n instructor in the Theatre Department at the University of Science and Ans of Oklahoma. Miss Carron has extensive ex– perience in working with bottl col– lese and community drama produc– tions. She served as a graduate assis– tant in theatre properties at the Univer tt) of Arkansas, where ·she also recei\ ed her \>taster of Arts degree in Theatre in t 988. She has conducted Creative Dramatics Wor kshops, and in 1989 she directed the Chickasha Community Theatre production of the musical SCROOGE . dramatics instructor. Miss Carroll indicated that her favorite pastime is reading new plays, and she at– tempts to occasiona lly visit New York City to see new Broadway plays. Her biggest thrill came ~ben she was in the audience for PHAN– TOM OF THE OPERA and CATS. "l am thinking of doing a two-act play this fall," Carroll stated. "This will be a departure from the one-act format of the past, but 1 think both students and adult theatregoers will enjoy it." Concerning her move to Decatur, Carroll indicated that she had never met friendlier people. "People have just gone out of their way to make me feel at home, a nd I'm beginning to do just that," she said. " I really look forward to getting to know the people in the community and in the area." " I am excited over the new op– portunities I will have at East Cen– tral, and I look forward to making

a contribution to the college's pro– grams, not only in the theatre department but in ·>ther areas as well."

Miss Carroll will be responsible for teaching Oral Communication classes at East Central as well as the Acting and Drama Production dasse . She has already begun mak– mg plans for the fall4!nner thea.Lre produ tion v. hich "ttl take place 10 early November. Bom in Oklahoma City, the new East Central instructor IS one of live children. She first realized her keen interest in drama in a ninth grade drama class and decided to major in theatre in college. As a college stu– dent, she appeared as the ''Artf~l Dodger" in OLIVER and m a Netl Stmon Comedy GOD'S FAVORITE. In graduate school. she was selected as one of an eleven woman cast for the monolosue TALKING WlTH. Miss Carroll's mother is British, and the family has enjoyed visits in London where they were able to see the famous mystery play THE MOUSE TRAP, a real treat for a
