Miss Wood, a LoUisville native, was recently selecled East Central's outstand ing faculty member and was recognized in February at the Mississippi Legislature during Higher Edu:;a,·on Appr~ u Day, Working for AcademiC Excel- lence. · The former outstanding women's basketball and tennis coach has been employed at the college for over 30 years and currenllv serves as an instructor in health, physical education and recreation. The Brackeen-Wood Physical Education Building is named in honor of Miss Wood and Denver Brackeen, former EC dean of students, coach and Hall of Fame basketball player.

Another reno' ation project un– derway is the orgoing effort to re– furbish Huff Auditorium, which has served since 1953 as a site for many commencement exercises, assembly programs. musicals, beauty pageants, dram~ concerts, the col– lege's first presidential inauguration and numerous other special events and memorable occasions. The project. funded solely through private contributions, is well into "pha~ two" which m– volves installau. m of an air condi– tioning system at an estimated cost of $70,000. The initial project phase concerned the replacement of stage curtains and window drapes which was comr~tcd at an approx– imate cost of $10.000.
