Warriors drub scooba for 4th win

East Central men improved their record to 4-1 by downing homestan– ding East Mississippi 84-69 November 13 in the Keyes T. Cur– rie Coliseum. The Warriors earlier defeated the Lions by an 89-78 margin in their season opener in the Brackeen-Wood Physical Education Building. In women's action, the Lady Lions avenged a season-opening 83-71 loss by outscoring the Lady Warriors 72-59. It was the first loss for the East Central women who, like the men, are currently 4-1 on the young season. Kevin Kennedy, a sophomore for– ward from Walnut Grove, was the leading scorer for the Warriors as he pumped in 20 points and had 7 rebounds. O ther score'rs were Tony Bailey, 17 points and 7 rebounds; Mark Stribling, 13 and 4; Terry Thames, 9 and 2; Michael James, 8 and 5; Tyron Bender, 8 and 1; Tyrone Stowers, 4 and 3; Willie Jacobs, 2 and 2; J.P. Viverette, 2 and 1; Luther Riley, 1 and 1; Charlie Don– nerson, 3 rebounds; and Marvin Nash and Vandy Hopson, each with 1 rebound. Eric Mays also saw action. East Central led 36-27 at halftime. Carthage sophomore Carolyn Boatman led the Lady Warriors with 21 points and 7 rebounds. Also scoring were Shontel Lowe, 19 points and 8 rebounds; Paula Nash, 8 and 5; Brook Smith, 4 and 1; Jackie Gladney, 3 and I; and Beverly Ware and Gloria Clay, each with 2 points and 1 rebound. In games this week, the East Cen– tral men will participate in a tour– nament scheduled November 19-20 at Northeast Mississippi Communi– ty College in Booneville. Both EC squads begin South Division action December 3 at Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College in Perkinston.
