EC Basketball Teams Post 7-1 Mark During First Week

East Central Community College basketball teams are off to a fast start for the 1990-91 campaign as the Lady Warriors went 4-0 and the EC men registered a 3-1 slate during the flfst week ofaction. In the annual ECCC CLassic held November 9-10 in the Brackeen– Wood Physical Educalicn Building, Sammy Pace's women outscored GulfCoast 90-77 Saturday night and held off Jackson State (TN) by an 84-69 margin in Friday night action. Carolyn Boalfnan, a sophomore forward from Carthage, led all scor– ers against the Lady Bulldogs as she pumped in a career-high 49 points. Also scoring were Paula Nash, 15; Shea Oakley and Beverly Ware, 8 each; Shontel Lowe, 6; Apryl Hen– don and Gloria Clay, 2 each. East Central led 41 -39 at halftime. In the other women's matchup, East MS downed Jackson State (TN) 76-44. Lady Warrior Paula Nash was the team's top scorer against Jackson State (TN) with 24 points. Other scorers were Boatman, 19; Jaclcie Gladney, 17; Lowe, 12; Oakley 4; Clay, 3; Brooke Smith and Misty Wright, 2 each; and Hendon, 1. East Central led 36-27 at halftime. In the other women's game on Fri– day, East MS outscored Gulf Coast 70-48. Other pointmakers were Tyrone Stowers, 22; Kevin Kennedy, 12; Marlc Stribling, 9; Michael James, 7; Eric Mays, 5; Charlie Donnerson, 2; and Terry Thames, I. Faulker led 48-44 at halftime. In other men's action on Saturday, East MS edged Jackson State (TN) 62-60. Sophomore forward Charlie Don– nerson of Gosnell, AR tallied 18 points and led the Warriors to a 95-64 win during Friday night action against Jackson State (TN). Also scoring were J.P. Viverette, 15; Tyron Bender, 12; Bailey, 11; Thames, 8; Stowers, 7; Vandy Hop– son and Kennedy, 6 each; Mays and Stribling, 3 each; Luther Riley and Marvin Nash, 2 each. EastCentral led 38-30 at halftime. In the other men's game on Fri– day, Faulkner State (AL) defeated EastMS 98-65. Other Games BothEast Ce:~tral teams won non– division battles with visiting MS Delta on Nov. 7 and with East MS during the season opener on Nov. 5. The Lady Warriors easily handled Delta 101-89 while the EC men out– scored their opposition 90-83. Shontel Lowe led EC with 28 points. Other scorers were Carolyn Boatman, 22; Paula Nash and

Brooke Smith, each with 21; Shea Oakley, 7; and BeverlyWare, 2. East Central led 48-43 at halftime. In men's action, Terry Thames led the EC attack wtih 24 points. Other pointmakers were Tyrone Stowers, 22; Kevin Kennedy, 20; Michael James 16; Mark Stribling 4; Eric Mays and Tony Bailey, 2each. The Warriors led 39-24 at halftime. In the season opener for both squads on Nov. 5, Nash pumped in 20 points and led EC to an 83-71 win over East MS. Also scOring were Oakley, 16; Lowe, 12; Boatman, 9; Marcella Torrence, Apryl Hendon and Ware, 7 each; and Tonya Stow– ers,4. East Central led 38-25 at halftime. Tryone Stowers led the Warrior attack as he tallied 19 points in EC's 89-78 thrashing of East MS. Other pointmakers were Thames, 16; Mays, 14; Bailey, 13; Stribling and Kennedy, 8 each; Marvin Nash, 7; and James, 4. EC led 43-37 at halftime Games This Week In action this week, both teams will travel to East MS Community College in Scooba on Nov. 13. The East Central men will partici– pate in a tournament at Northeast MS Community College in Boone– ville, Nov. 19-20 before talcing a break for the Thanksgiving Holidays.
