East Central Warriors rally for 90·83 win DECA i :R- The East Central Community Col– lege Warnors ran their record to 2-0 on the season wtlh a ~orne-from-behind 90-83 win over visiting .Mt b ippi Della community College Wednesday ni~ The Warriors got off to a slow start, and wasn't able to take their first lead until Terry Thames' basket put ECCC up 51-50 with 14:30 left in the game. ..We staned slow and it looked like we weren't reaoy to play," ECCC coach Jay Bowen said, "and Deltll. being a good team, took advantage of this. We ended up playing well and I thought it showed char– acter. the way we hung in there at the end." The Trojans jumped out front 6-0 before Thames got £CCC on the board at the 17:16 mark. Thames closed the gap on a basket to 10-8 and with 14:42left m the first half, Michael James tied the game. Mississippi Delta then ran off a string of 10 points before the Warriors could score again. Anthony James then hit a three-pointer that gave theTrojans a 15 point lead at 28-13. Mississippi Della continued to hold the lead as the closest the Warriors could come before the half was within three at 38-35 as the Trojans held on for a 44-39lead at intermission. Thames and Tony Bailey got the first two baskets of the second half to pull £CCC to within 44-43, and after the Trojans took a 50-45lead, Kevin Kennedy got a basket and two free throws to put the Warriors at 50-49. Then Thames gave East Central it's first lead at 51 -50. The lead changed hands six times when at the 11:07 markThames hit a 3-pointer that gave the War– riors a 60-58 lead that they never gave up. ECCC be– gan to pull steadily away and led by as many as nine points before Scott Caldwell hit two free throws wi i.h 3:27 left in the game, making the score 84-80 and the Warriors held on for the seven-point victory. Leading the Warriors to victory was Thames with 24 points while Tyrone Stowers had 22, Kennedy 20 and James 16. High for the Trojans were Willi e Lewis with 21 , Caldwell16, Timmy Lewis 14 and Joey Block with 12. The Warriors (2-0) will next sec action Friday night in the East Central Tournament when they take on Jackson State (Tenn.) and Saturday night they will meet Faulkner State (Ala.).
