Kirkland's award will formally be announced during the annual Mu Alpha Theta national convention scheduled Aug. 3 through Aug. 8 at the Hyatt Regency Westshore in Tampa. Fla.
Tammy Kirkland, a 1989 graduate of East Central Community College, bas been selected the 1989 winner of the Andree Award, an honor presented by Mu Alpha Theta, the national high school a nd communi– ty/ junior college mathematics club. Miss Kirkland is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Rodney Kirkland of Philadelphia. She was informed of her selection in-a letter received from Thomas J . Hill, secretary-treasurer for the na– tional organization. Hill said the Andree Award is given to an outstanding student who is planning a career in the teaching of mathematics and whose college major reflects that interest. Along with the award, the Neshoba Central High School graduate was given a cash award of $1,000, which was presented to her on behalf of the national organization
