The frrst score, a 36-yard blast by Corne– lius Gcdward, came wit11 2:45 lefl in the i.hird stan1.a and the second tally, a 35-yard run by Chris Sypho, occurred during the first minute of play in the fourth quarter. Burke kicked the first PAT and, on a bro– ken play, lofted a strike to Laurence McGee for the two-point conversion following t11e final score. East Central put the game's final points on the scoreboard when quar– terback Greg Fulton fired an eight– yard stike to tight end Anthony Clark with just over five minutes left in regulation.

Buke added the PAT. The Delta scoring march covered 59 yards in eight plays. The Warriors regained the lead with about four minutes remaining until halfume when Byrd tallied on a five-yard run. Williamson again added the PAT. The East Central touchdown was set up by David Nichol's intercep– tion and return which gave the War– riors possession on the Delta 19. East Central obtained its early 7-0 lead when running back Sammie Holifield of Lake, who had missed several games due to injuries, capped an 88-yard drive when he found pay– dirt from two yards out Ronnie Wil– liamson of Nanih Waiya added the PAT. The key play of the eight-play scoring drive was a 38-yard passing strike from quarterback Lamont Byrd to wide receiver Tony Kidd who fought off two Delta defenders in making the catch at the visitor's nine yard line. ECCC gave an early scare to ayoff-bound MS Delta but the vis– mg Trojans twice rallied to defeat 1e Wamors 29-21 in a non-division batlle played Thursday night in War– riorStadium. East Central, which had first half lcacls of 7-0 and 14-7, could not clinch a season-ending victory as the Delta squad, powered by an offcn- ive line which averaged just under 300-pounds per man, built a two– ouchdown margin in the final two periods and put the game out of ~ch in the final stanza. The Warriors ended the 1989 Ulmpaign with a 2-8 overall mark nd posted a 1-5 South Division record. Mississippi Delta, which is headed to the state playoffs, fimshed the regular season with an 8-2 slate.
