Copeland signed with Alabama, but failed to meet NCAA academic standards. Robinson leads in tackles with 37. ~ .. DECATUR- East Central might have one of its better football teams in the last 10 years. Unfor– tunately for the Warriors, so does everybody else. The result has been a 1-4 record at the mid-point of the 1989 season. ECCC catches no breather this week when it hosts defending state champion and currently 14th-ranked Hinds at 7:30 Saturday night. ECCC enters the game on the heels of a 49-35 loss to East Mississippi Monday night. ''We see some spots where we're doing well,'' ECCC coach A.J. Kilpatrick said. "I don't think we've played poor. We haven't gotten blown out." One of the bright spots last week was David Savell. He returned kickoffs 43 and 44 yards to set up scores. For the season, the 5-foot-9, 160-pound Decatur native has returned six kickoffs for an average of 31.1 yards. He also has six receptions for 95 yards, including a 41-yarder at EMCC. "I think he'll continue to improve," Kilpatrick said. "He's a gutsy kid. I think maybe he's surpris– ed us a little bit." Injuries to Shawn White (ankle) and Opie Ray (shoulder) have enabled ECCC's last two opponents to n h for over 400 yards each. "I hope we can ~et our defense in order," Kilpatrick said. "We re not planning on trying to outscore them. Of course, we didn't plan on that the other night." ECCC's leading rusher, Sammie Holifield, is questionable for Hinds after suffering a deep _leg bruise in the first half of the EMCC game. Holifield
