Ronnie Williamson's 28-yard field goal provided the last swing of a seesaw game filled with excitement and errors. East Central coach A.J. Kilpatrick, who led Holmes to the statejunior college championship eight years ago, was pleased with theWarriors•effort, but was somewhat shaken by their mistakes. "Thb is a young team that tries hard," said Kilpat– rick, who acknowledged the youth might well have been the reason for the errors which several times appeared on the verge ofputting Holmes on top to stay. Ea&t Central struck first, rolling 71 yards in seven plays after a 47-yard field goal try by Holmes' Kelly Al– dermanwas offtarget. A 51-yard pickup bySammieHo– lifield, a freshman from Lake, keyed the drive with Dar– nell Brown punching in for the score from a yard out. Just before halftime in a preview ofthe game's finish, East Central brought a 14-14 deadlock on a 66-yard Greg Fulton toTony Kidd touchdown pass. Holme regained the lead with 5:47 left in the third quarter on Browne's 12 yard pass to a prone Earl Ables in the end zone. The Warriors moved from ArlandoDaniels' intercep– tion at the Bulldog 23 Lo score in five plays with Holi– field slashing across the last yard, but Williamson's point-after try was offleft, leaving Holmes up by 21-20. That edge was extended when Robinson blasted over for his third I.Quchdown shortly after Brian Edwards re– covered Holifield's fumble ofa punt at the EC 4. Thereafter, though, theWarriors ruled, a 2-yard scor– ing sneak by quarterback Lamont Byrd followed by his keep wide right for a tying 2-pointer bringing a 28-28 lock with 5:01left.
