Vickers is awarded USM scholarship Harriet Vickers, a senior at the University of Southern Mississippi, has been awarded th_e prestigious Leonard Lowery Memorial Scholarship for the coming school year. The announcement was made ·by Dennis Jones, Chairman of the Journalism'· Department at Southern. Vickers, daughter. of Mr. and Mrs. Ovid Vickers of Decatur, is cur– rently serving a ten-week internship in journalism with the Laurel Leader-Call. The internship provides an opportunity for on-the-job experience in reporting many different types of news stories, as well as being a part of an actual work– ing newspaper. The Lowery Memorial Scholarship is awarded each fall to an outstanding senior in the field of p'rint journalism. Vickers is majoring · in news/editorial ~ournalism. •
