Thi's new look was centered around a native of Union, Mississippi, Deborah McBeath. Deborah only five years ago as a Lady Warrior at East Central Jr. College was named Mississippi player of the year. Now at the age of 24 she is one of the NCAA's youngest head coaches. . Coach McBeath has brought con– siderable coaching experience to the head coaching spot at UAH, having served as assistant coach at the University of Montevallo, Troy State University and The University of Alabama in Huntsville under head coach Donna Dunaway. McBeath is a coach that also knows how to play the game. During her college career, she averaged 21.7 points ovt>r a four year period. She played junior col– lege ball at East Central Junior College where she was selected as the top junior college player in Mississippi in 1981. After completing her time at East Cen– tral she had accumulated over l, 100 total points and had participated in the junior · college all-star game in 1981. Also, while at East Central she was named to the first team all-state in basketball as well as softball from 1979-81. From East Central she went on to William Carey College in Hattiesburg, Mississippi where she was named to the NAIA All– District 30 team, and was selected to the All Gulf Coast Athletic Conference team. McBeath was named permanent coach for the Lady Chargers in January of 1986, after an extensive search was held to replace head coach Donna Dunaway who left in November of 1985. When asked what she thought about the announcement she said, "I am very happy with the decision and 1t could noT have come at a better time. We are just entering district play and this decision
