ECJC Homecoming Includes Full Day of Festivities

East Central Junior College's homecoming festivities were held recently on the ECJC campus which was decorated with many renditions of the va rious clubs and organizations. Reunion groups ranged from the class of 1936 to the class of 1986. The . groups met -a t 10 a. m. to begin reminiscing. An alumni luncheon was held at noon in the main cafeteria and the Gordon room. After the meal was completed, chairs were moved into the main dining area where music was provided by the Collegians, East Central's pop rock group. Following the entertainment, Dr. Eddie M. Smith, president of East Central Junior College, presented opening remarks and introductions. The homecoming court was also recognized at this time. Serving as homecoming queen was Gaye McDaniel of Philadelphia . Regina Amos of Union served as maid of honor. Freshman maids were Tina Walker of Philadelphia, Mowdy of Philadelphia. Sophomore maids included Kathy Culwell of Louisville, Jennifer Russell of Newton and Susan Williamson of Philadelphia . Dwight Mulholland, chairman of the nominating committee of the Alumni Association, presented the nominees for office.''These were ap– proved by proclamation. Serving as officers for the 1987 year will be Harold Webb,president ; Dr. Pam Kirk , vice president ; and Mrs. Lois Cooper, secretary-treasurer. Various reunion groups including the football teams of 1962-63, the women's basketball team of 1936, former Mr. and Mrs. ECJC, former

WO-HE-LO editors, former Tom– Tom editors were recognized at the luncheon. All members who were present of the classes of 1936, 1946, 1956, 1966, 1976, and 1986 were also recognized. Each member of the class of 1936 were presented a golden anniver– sary diploma which was an exact replica of the original which they received 50 years ago. , The women's basketball team members present were presented a plaque in the shape of Mississippi and an 8 X 10 copy of the original 1936 team photograph. The 1936 team was the first women's team from East Central Junior College to win a state championship. The winners of the golf and tennis tournaments, which were held in conjunction with the homecoming festivities, were announced. Melissa Gibbs of Forest captured first place honors in the women's doubles and Kerry Winstead of Union and Wes Kight of Philadelphia took first place in the men's singles. Dr. Brad Tucker, Dean of Instruc– tion, presented the faculty members of the year. Academic faculty member of the year went to Mrs. Ann Burkes. Vocational technical faculty member of the year was 0. L. Newell. The presentation of the Athletic Hall of Fame honoree was made by Mrs. Lynn Hayes, vocational consul– tant. Miss Lucille Wood, a former student athlete and coach, was in– ducted as the second member of ECJC's Athletic Hall of Fame.

Harold Webb, vice president of the Alumni Association, presented Dr. Pam Catledge Kirk with the Alum– na of the Year award. Kenneth Madison was honored as the Alum– nus of the Year and was presented the award by Joe Mulholland, presi– dent of the Alumni Association.
