ECJC picks Clark By Marty Stamper The Meridian Star

DECATUR - East Central Junior College took a big step toward rebuilding its sagging baseball program Tuesday when Dr. Eddie Smith announced the selection of Jamie Clark as the school's first full-time baseball coach. "The search committee and myself are pleased and excited to have someone of coach Clark's ability, integrity, and personal~ty to direct the East Central Jumor College program," Smith said. "I am proud and excited about becoming the ECJC head baseball coach," Clark said. "I'm looking forward to getting back ·to East Central Mississippi." ·· The West Point native comes to ECJC from Lee Academy in Clarksdale. Prior to his year at Lee, he was the baseball coach at Southland High in Cardwell, Missouri. At Southland, his teams won 55 games in a two– year period and finished third out of 149 schools in the state Class A c9mpetition in 1986. He has also served as a graduate assistant to Dave "Boo" Ferriss at Delta State University. Jamie Clark is the type person who will roll up his sleeves and do what's necessary to have a winning program." Before his year at Delta State, Clark was the baseball coach at Humphreys Academy in Belzoni from 1978-83. His teams there reached the state finals four times. He has been named Academy North AA Baseball Coach of the Year three times - 1980, 1981, and 1983. He also served as coach of the North Academy All-Star Team in 1981. Clark inherits the entire 12-man roster off last year's 3-29 squad. He plans on using a mix– ture of district and out-of-state players to change the Warriors' fortunes. "I am going to try to build from within our five-county district," Clark said. "That's going to be my base of recruiting, but we're definitely going to supplement it with some out-of-state people." In addition to his coaching duties, Clark will also serve as Assistant Director of Student Activities.
