ECJC President To Speak to Lions Club Dr. Eddie M. Smith, president of East Central Junior College, will be the featured guest speaker at the regular meeting of the Philadelphia Lions Club Thursday. Dr. Smith assumed his present position on July l, 1985. Upon graduation from East Central, he fur– ther pursued his education by earn– ing both his bachelor's and master's degrees from Mississippi State University and completed a doctorate in higher education administration with an emphasis on junior colleges at the University of Southern Mississippi. Smith began his educational career as a classroom teacher of biology, chemistry, advanced biology and earth science at · Natchez-Adams Public Schools in 1965. He then became the system wide supervisor of grade~ seven through 12 in the Natchez Public Schools, as well as continuing with his secondary science classroom duties. This was followed by an assistant principal's position at South Natchez-Adams High School in 1969. From 1970-72 Smith was director of academic affairs at the USM branch in Natchez and dean of the Natchez campus of Copiah-Lincoln Junior College for 1972-80. He was serving as dean of instruc– tin of Co-Lin in Wesson before assuming his position at East Central Junior College. . Dr. Smith is a member of various organizations including the Mississip– pi Education Association, Mississip– pi Association of Colleges, Mississip– pi Public Junior College Deans Association, $late Television Council on Higher ~ucation and Newton County Community Conc~d
