First black ECJC trustee

Miss Mattye Evans of Forest has officially been named as the first black selected by a county board of supervisors to serve as an East Central Junior College Board or Trustees member. Miss Evans, shown above with, from left, Henry B. "Hubba" Hudspeth of Louisville, board chairman, and Dr. Eddie Smith, ECJC President, was appointed to the post by Scott County District One Supervisor Monzell Stowers. Miss Evans is employed as credit clerk in the loan department at Farmers and Merchants Bank in Forest. She is a 1964 graduate of E.T. Hawkins High School and pursued further studies at Alcorn State University. Miss Evans is a member of Lone Pilgrim Ct.apter No. 418 Order of the Eastern Stars where she serves as Associate Matron of the local chapter and Secretary of the Eighth District and one of the Registrars of Bathsheba Grand Chapter; Heroines of Jericho, Scott County Branch of the NAACP, Scott County Improvement Association, and Scott County Alcorn Alumni Club.
