ECJC, Decatur High students evacuated after bomb threat
Decatur school were taken to an open area behind the high school that was referred as a "practice foot– ball field." Newton County Deputy Sheriff Jackie Knight said he was summoned t A Friday morning bomb threat that caused the temporary evacuation of East Central Junior Col– lege and Decatur High School has been determined -to be a hoax. Dr.-Brad Tucker, Dean of Instruction at East Cen– tral Junior College, said that an unidentified man called the campus at about 7:50 a.m. Tucker said that the coarse, male voice told him "Yes, unless $100,000 is brought to me behind the Pizza Hut in Philadelphia by 10 o'clock, a bomb will go off. " Tucker said in a prepared statement that he thought the man sounded "serious and in a hurry." Tucker said that another call came in about 7:55 a .m. This time, the campus switchboard answered the call. The caller reiterated his earlier threat by say– ing "Just thought I'd tell you--the bomb is set to go off at 10 o'clock.
