ECJC Baseball
Despite two home runs by Ryan Hull of Chunky and solo blasts by Patrick Kelly and Miles Porter, both of Morton, East Central Junior College could not hold an 8-6 fifth-inning lead and fell 10-8 to visiting Pearl River in the first game of a double-header played Friday, March 27. ECJC was defeated in the second contest, 14-0. The East Central-Pearl River game was originally scheduled for Marf'h 2 but was postponed because of bad weather. With the double-header loss, East Central fell to 2-11-1 for the season. In games schedules this week. East Central will travel to Pearl River Saturday, April 4, host Co-Lin Monday, April 6, journey to Southwest Wednesday, April 8, entertain Clarke College Friday, April 10. and host Utica Tuesday, April 14. Besides the double-header loss to Pearl River, ECJC split a double-header (losing the first game 8-5 but winning the second also by an 8-5 score) with homestanding Jones Thursday. March 26, and fell twice to visiting Hinds (16-0 in the opener and 9-0 in the second game) Monday, March 23. In the first game with Pearl River, ECJC hitters were Hull, two home runs; Porter, home run and double; Kelly, home run and single; Doug Jones of Philadelphia, two singles; Greg Warren of Forest, two singles; and Will Sumerall of Morton, single. Tommy Wallace of Louisville and Rory Willis of Philadelphia shared pitching duties. Wallace struck out
two, walked four, and ·allowed nine hits in 41/3 innings. Willis had no strike outs, walked one, and allowed six hits in 2% innings. . In the second game, Pearl River scored five runs in the first, one in the third, and eight in the seventh to capture the double-header sweep. ECJC hitters were Mark Fulton of Philadelphia, Miles Porter of Morton, Doug Jones of Philadel– phia, Terry Moore of Noxapater, and Mecridric Calloway of Phila– delphia, singles each . John Martin of Monroe, Michigan, Fulton, and Bill Hamrick of Newton handled mound duties. Martin struck out three, walked four, and allowed four hits in five innings pitched. Fulton fanned none, walked three, and gave up three hits in 1 2/3 innings. Hamrick had no strike outs, walked three , and allowed one hit in 1/3 inning. Anthony Triplet of Louisville and Mark Fulton of Philadelphia shared pitching duties in the Warriors' win over Jones, which broke a nine-game losing streak. Morton's Miles Porter was behind the plate. Hitters for ECJC. besides Thomas, were Rory Willis of Philadelphia, two singles; Miles Porter of Morton, two singles; Ryan Hull of Chunky, single; Tommy Wallace of Louisville, single; Patrick Kelly of Morton, double; and Mark Fulton of Philadelphia, single. In the first game. ECJC hurlers were John Martin of Monroe, Michigan and Rory Willis of Philadelphia. ECJC hitters were Wallace, double and single; Hull, two singles; Patrick, two singles; adn Greg Warren of Forest, Porter and Mecridric Calloway of Philadelphia, singles each. In the defeats to Hinds, Hull, Martin. and Bill Hamrick of Newotn went the distance inthe first game and Wallace and Fulton shared pitching duties in the second contest. East Central hitters in the first game were Kelly, two singles; Doug Jones of Philadelphia, single; and Hull, single. Hull got the only hit for the Warriors in the second game.
